A Lachine canoe and kayak competitor was honoured for his athletic performance and academic excellence with a $4,000 bursary at the 19th edition of the Hydro-Quebec program with the Fondation de l’athlète d’excellence du Québec in September.

David Provost competes in speed canoe and received a silver medal in the C-1 200 metre at the 2015 Canadian Junior Championships. He placed 7th in the C-1 200, 500 and 1,000 metre at the Canadian Senior Championships in Halifax, N.S., in 2016.

The 20-year-old canoeist, who is currently working to improve his endurance, is quick to learn and is also a natural leader. In the short term he intends to participate in the 2017 Canada Games and make the senior national team.

Once his athletic career is over, the student of natural sciences at cegep André-Laurendeau sees a future working with the RCMP.
