Founded in 1916, the Lachine Concert Band turns 100 this year, and they’re giving music fans many ways to celebrate. On May 6, fans can take in the band’s Annual Spring Concert at l’Entrepôt.

That show, and the next one in August at the Outdoor Dance Floor, should help to tide band music lovers over until their big closing celebration in October at église des Saint-Anges.

To finish the season, the band will have a very special guest, trumpeter Ron Di Lauro. In an interview with TC Media in February, Di Lauro shared fond memories of learning to play trumpet from his father, who led the band from the mid-1970s until the late 80s.

The concert band are also paying the musical tradition forward with a contest for student musicians who play in the band. Gold, silver and bronze study bursaries will be awarded to aspiring professional musicians throughout the year.

The Annual Spring Concert will take place Friday, May 6, at 8 p.m. at l’Entrepô (2901 St-Joseph Blvd., Lachine). Tickets are $15.
