Fight is still on against EAB

The City of Dorval needs your help to fight the devastating Emerald Ash Borer (EAB). Hundreds of ash trees on private property in Dorval still require treatment against the insect. If you have an ash tree on your property, the city urges you to call the urban planning department.

In an effort to preserve the city’s urban forest, Dorval has been proactively taking measures to fight the insect since it was first discovered in Dorval in August 2014.

By the end of this year, all trees on public property will have been treated for EAB. The city has also initiated a massive planting of new trees, adopted new ash tree by-laws and offer residents a subsidy to treat ash trees on private property.

Subsidy

The city of Dorval will cover 50 per cent of the cost of treating an ash tree on private property, up to $1,500.

To partake in the program, residents must contact the urban planning department. An inspector will examine the tree and make arrangements with the selected contractor. After treatment, the resident can bring the receipt to the city.

Treatment period ranges from June to August, therefore visits will begin in May and no new appointments will be taken after Aug. 7.
