Autumn in Montreal. After a long summer, the leaves and the temperature are falling. As we ready for snowy days by storing the garden gnomes, what can we do to outfit the inside of our homes for hibernation?

Here are some ideas to warm your interiors and make the coming winter cozy.

1- Layer up with throws, cushions and area rugs. Your toes thank you in the morning if there’s a soft rug to greet them and there is nothing more pleasing than extra blankets in every room. Sheepskin or faux fur adds a cozy cottage chic. This living room gets a snug update for fall with blankets, fur, tweed, cable knit and velvet. Go for texture.

2- Window Treatments. A combination of blinds and curtains is finished and functional or simply hang decorative panels on a rod to close out the drafts at night. If you have old windows, replacing them with new energy star models is worth considering.

warm up for winter-23- Color! Evict the winter blahs by adding accents of your favorite colors. Bright pops in your art or furniture (like this hot entrance table) can transition into springtime gracefully but will warm your heart while it is cold. Greys are still trendy and brilliant colors compliment them. Paint a room (or wall) in rich navy, raspberry or charcoal. Deep colors create a cocoon for hibernation. Source low voc paint.

4- Wood. Rustic accents like wood trays, frames or branches add rich, warmth to your decor.

5- Gold. Seize the glitz and sparkle- brass accents are in and hot!

6- Fire. Literally add an insert in your living room. Gas or electric fireplaces sooth the soul and can supplement your existing heating. Candles are an attractive budget wise alternative.

7- Heating. Install programmable thermostats to conserve electricity (We need to be practical too!)

8- Fresh flowers are a welcome reminder of spring.

Enjoy the Winter!
