An initiative between the City of Dorval and the Groupe de recherche appliquée en macroécologie – Éco-quartier Lachine (GRAME) aims at providing financial support to residents in an effort to increase the city’s canopy by 2025.
The “A Tree for my Neighbourhood” program offers eight varieties of potted 1.5-2 metre trees, like Black Walnut and Red Maple at a reduced price of 25$. Five varieties of fruit trees like apple, plum or apricot can be purchased for $35.
They must be planted on private property and orders must be placed before Oct. 4. Free delivery by the City of Dorval’s Public Works department will start Oct. 13.
The Montreal Canopy Action Plan has an objective of increasing the city’s canopy index by 5 per cent. For Dorval to reach their part of that goal, it means planting over 7,600 trees in the next decade.
