Un incendie majeur a causé l’effondrement d’un viaduc à Atlanta. Le feu avait été maîtrisé en soirée jeudi.
Selon le Atlanta Journal-Constitution, l’incendie a brûlé durant plus d’une heure sous l’autoroute I-85, projetant un imposant nuage de fumée.
«Le feu est sous contrôle», a dit le sergent Cortez Stafford, un porte-parole du service d’incendie d’Atlanta.
Bien que l’incendie n’était pas encore complètement éteint, M. Stafford a affirmé ne pas s’attendre à ce que les flammes se propagent aux structures environnantes.
Sur le pont, des témoins ont affirmé que des policiers avaient demandé aux automobilistes de rebrousser chemin en raison d’inquiétudes au sujet de l’intégrité de la structure. Quelques minutes plus tard, la viaduc s’affaissait.
