Waterfront property acquired

Borough of Lachine Mayor Claude Dauphin announces, on behalf of the members of Council, the acquisition of a building and land located on Saint Joseph Boulevard immediately east of 24th Avenue in order to make the Borough’s bicycle path safe and to consolidate a riverside park.

“This property is a duplex belonging to the Estate of Mrs. Yolande Poirier Granger. It is situated between Marina d’Escale Park and Des Saules Park, and looks onto Lake St. Louis. Our main reason for the purchase is to make the bicycle path safer at this location. There is visibly little space between Saint Joseph Boulevard and the bicycle path, making this part of the path unsafe for pedestrians and cyclists alike. At the same time, it allows us to consolidate our waterfront park space,” Mr. Dauphin explains.

The cost of the $830,000 purchase will be shared by Ville de Montréal and the Borough of Lachine. For its contribution, the Borough of Lachine undertakes to disburse $170,000. The acquisition will assure residential community environmental quality by helping to preserve natural environments and promote greening, thereby reducing heat islands and protecting natural environments and greenspace.

“We heartily acknowledge the support and collaboration of Ville de Montréal in enabling us to acquire this rare outstanding site, providing us with another access to Lake St. Louis. We thus continue our longstanding and ongoing efforts to this end, helping to make our magnificent waterfront more available to the population as a whole,” concluded the Mayor of Lachine.
