News from Lakeside Academy

At Lakeside Academy we are always trying to make connection between real life and the subjects in the school. With this in mind we have developed a unit between the Contempory World course and English course.

They have been working on a unit about WWII and in particularly the Holocaust. They have been watching movies, reading book and acting out scences. It also includes doing a Freedom Writers component.

The culminating activity is a trip for all Sec 5 students to the Holocaust Museum to try to get them to fully understand this part of history.

We also have a teacher that has been selected to go on a trip to Israel, through the museum, and has sponsorship from Riva and Thomas O Hecht. She leaves on July 1.

Music program

Lakeside has been working on developing there music program over the last three years.

We have a music teacher who was a musician with Cirque du Soleil. This year and last at a Jazz competition we won Silver medals and we have just been asked to represent the 15 years olds at the Montreal Jazz Festival on July 2.

French reading competition

The LBPSB has just had a French reading competition in their aim to promote better French in their High Schools.

The High Schools had to read a selection of French Reading books and the were quizzed on it. It was a close final but Lakeside Academy won by one point.

The majority of our students are from Lachine and I am sure it would be of interest to the community.
