Train de l'Ouest: The NDP tables a motion

With all political parties in the House of Commons voting in favor of the Train de l’Ouest, NDP deputy spokesman on Transport Jamie Nicholls (Vaudreuil-Soulanges) filed a motion (Thursday) asking the the federal government to fund this important transit project.

« It is time to act. The federal government must commit itself financially as quickly as possible in order to build the Train de l’Ouest, » says Nicholls. “The West of Montreal suffered too long from a lack of public transportation”.

“In order to ensure the economic competitiveness of Montreal, the Standing Committee on Transport, Infrastructure and Communities request the Government of Canada to immediately commit to funding the Train de l’Ouest, as requested by the Quebec government, and that the committee report of this motion in the House, » reads the motion presented March 1st.

The forthcoming public works on the Champlain Bridge and the Turcot interchange will cause many headaches for motorists, predicts Nicholls. « Public transportation will need to compensate for the situation. It is high time the federal government work with the Government of Quebec City and Montreal, so we can finally go forward with the Train de l’Ouest. »
