What better way to open a season of luminosity than with a record-breaking event?

Roy Surette - Artistic and Executive Director, Centaur Theatre Company

Never before has the Centaur Theatre Company presented a cast of 22 actors on its stage. The Adventures of a Black Girl in Search of God is a sumptuous delight for the senses, an epic yet deeply intimate theatrical experience that opens the heart and enriches the soul. We are very proud to offer Montreal audiences the truly unique privilege of seeing one of Canada’s most outstanding and rarely produced plays, with a star-studded cast, led by a Governor General Award-winning playwright and director, Djanet Sears.

It is also our distinct privilege to partner with the renowned National Arts Centre English Language Theatre and Montreal’s beloved Black Theatre Workshop in presenting this relevant, heartrending and inspirational work. What a thrilling start to the year, celebrating these multi-talented artists from across the nation. With recent events demonstrating that racism is sadly still a huge issue in our midst, it is an honor to create space for people of color to speak for themselves.

We’d love to share our entire season with you, and the best way to do that is by joining our marvellous family of Subscribers. There are many perks and privileges in doing so. Comprised entirely of contemporary Canadian content, our 47th season reignites the past, sheds light on the present and illuminates possible futures. From epic drama, musical vaudeville and political thriller to journeys into whimsy, calamity and the idyllic countryside, we offer you a dazzling array of theatrical gems to capture the imagination. Six very diverse plays: four by female playwrights, three world premieres, two by artists with long Centaur histories, and one English-language premiere by an innovative Quebecois company, all yours for the seeing under one roof.

Shining a light on what lies beneath the surface of things, plumbing the depths of our shared experience, smashing our assumptions and preconceptions … these are key themes uniting our main stage productions, allowing us to spotlight brilliant local and Canadian artists. And as always, we complement our line-up with innovative extras: Brave New Looks, the Children’s Series, Urban Tales, and the ever popular, Wildside Festival.

We hope you join us for all of them!
