BA Juvenile Boys Touch Football: City Champs

The BA juvenile boys touch football team in their 5th attempt came away victorious and picked up the GMAA Division 1 City title by defeating Howard S. Billings by the score of 15-6 and a satisfying win for coaches Jeff Dort and Mike Loiseau, having knocked on the door so many times. Last year, they won silver in the finals with many of the same players.

It was a combination of timely offence and stingy defence when needed. It also was a bittersweet victory for many of the students, this being their graduating year. Touchdowns were scored by Jersey Henry and Kenry Julien and the game MVP was Bradley Kearney. So a big congrats to both players and coaches!

Also in GMAA sports, the basketball season has gotten underway with BA fielding 4 teams, but we will be paying close attention to both the juvenile boys and girls Division 1 squads. Both teams have a core of players having been together for a while; expectations are high for both these teams. We wish all teams well in their quest for the city banner.

BA Students visit the Astral Radio Stations

This past week, close to 20 Sec 3 students lucked out by going on a neat field trip/visit to the Astral group of radio stations comprised of CJAD, CHOM, and Virgin Radio. It was our pleasure to having arranged this visit with our good friends at the station, which saw the students get wide-eyed as they visited the CJAD newsroom, the various production studios where music mixes get put together, amongst other neat tricks of the business.

The students divided in two groups, also went into the actual FM studios and a chance to meet and ask questions of the announcers in question, being Nikki B at Virgin Radio and at CHOM, it was Too Tall, who took time out to answer questions from the would be radio stars, and over at CJAD, from the control room, the students watched live as mid-day hosts, Ric Peterson and Suzanne Desautels doing their show in the adjoining broadcast studio.

It was a neat visit for these young students to learn and discover how shows get put together. Just before leaving, the students were all given a CHOM tuque as a souvenir of their visit and just in time for the winter months up ahead. We would like to thank Astral VP and General Manager, Martin Spalding and CHOM Promotion Manager, Matthew “Danger Boy” Wood for their time in showing everybody around. Like the CTV visits, we hope to make this an annual visit. CHOM Rocks !
