Terry Fox continues to inspire

It has been almost forty years since a young, determined Terry Fox decided to run across Canada to raise awareness for the disease that claimed his leg. Every year, Canadians of all ages honor his memory by raising funds for cancer research. This year, the Children’s World Academy (CWA) in LaSalle once again answered the call.

On Friday, September 29, students, teachers and faculty took part in their 37th annual Terry Fox Walk. With the image of Terry jogging on his prosthetic leg, and the clip-clop sound of it hitting the asphalt on their minds, dedicated group raised $1176. The grade five students were leading the way.

Young Ariana was straightforward. “I was very proud to participiate in the Terry Fox walk because he was a true Canadian Icon!”

Saoirse was serious and thoughtful about the walk. “This walk taught the students at CWA to be responsible and caring. I really admire how Terry Fox was committed to his run every single day.”

For Clancy, it was about inspiration. “I was very proud to honor Terry Fox not just by donating to the foundation but also encouraging students to contribute as well”

And, “I felt great to be a Canadian,” was how Daniel summed up the experience.
