When he’s not busy studying Social Sciences at Vanier College, wrestler Alex Moore is throwing down on the mats.

The 19-year-old took home a $4,000 scholarship from Hydro Quebec and the Québec foundation for athletic excellence (FAEQ) last month, an award to encourage a balance between sports and studying.

A technical and daring wrestler, Moore took eighth place in the 2016 Junior World Championships and gold at the 2016 Junior Pan American games. The 74-kilogram category athlete is now working to increase his strength.

His next goal is to win the Canadian Junior and Senior Championships, and eventually become World Champion. Moore plans on pursuing a career in sports management.

Bursaries were awarded to 30 athletes last month. In past years, Vanier College students, wrestler Dori Yeats and synchronized swimmer Brooke Brimo, also received FAEQ awards.
