$4-million: Vanier library gets a long awaited update

More space and technology equals more learning when Vanier College invests $4-m in library renovations.

For the first time since it was built in the late 1970s, the Vanier College library is going to be renovated. The new library/learning commons is a $4-million investment in an open concept that will allow students to benefit from a new educational space.

“We needed to create more space for students to study, more computer stations and more outlets for personal computers. Over all it needed to be modernized and made more functional for the students,” said Vanier College spokesperson, Marguerite Corriveau.

Construction on the three-storey library should start in spring and be completed by January 2017.

The concept is a “Learning Commons” that will encompass the Tutoring and Academic Success Centre (TASC) and the Science Technology Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) centre. New seating will provide space for over 600 students. New computers and additional electrical outlets will also be installed.
