Doors closed but warranties restored
The doors are locked and the deal seekers have moved on from Sears in Carrefour Angrignon. January 14 was the last day and now LaSalle will await the opening of The Bay in the fall of 2018 in the space that used to house Target.
The many job losses and having yet another store close have affected more than a few of the boroughs residents. Christiane S. will miss visiting the store. « It was always the place to be when I was younger and I remember wanting to work for them. I bought my first stove here too, » she says.
The loss of the store also had repercussions for people who had bought appliances and furniture. The service contracts for the machines were in limbo after the closure announcement. But now, the DirectBuy company has announced new memberships for Sears Canada extended warranty customers who have been left without coverage for their appliances.
« These customers paid for additional protection on their major purchases and now that protection is worthless, as Sears did not maintain a reserve account to protect their warranty customers. With this acquisition, we now have an opportunity to help them and to serve customers that have been adversely affected by this disappointing turn of events, » says Dylan Astle, the COO, of DirectBuy in a statement.
DirectBuy will also make efforts to hire former Sears Canada employees to join its service department.
Sears had tried to reinvent itself, but the management claimed it did not have the financial resources to provide it with the time necessary to complete its reinvention. The closures have resulted in 12,000 job losses nationwide.
