Un premier gouverneur ouvertement homosexuel élu aux États-Unis

Le démocrate Jared Polis est devenu mardi soir le premier homme ouvertement homosexuel à être nommé gouverneur aux États-Unis. Il a été élu dans l’État du Colorado, contre le républicain Walker Stapleton.

Lors de la dernière élection présidentielle, en 2016, les républicains de Donald Trump avaient perdu le Colorado aux mains d’Hillary Clinton. M. Polis succède donc à un autre démocrate, John Hickenlooper.

Sur la Toile, mardi soir, plusieurs personnalités publiques ont félicité le nouvel élu. Des militants soulignaient pour leur part «un grand pas de l’histoire» aux États-Unis.

La page «People For Bernie», un regroupement de supporters de Bernie Sanders, a elle aussi félicité le gouverneur Polis pour son triomphe, qualifiant au passage Walker Stapleton d’un «être humain horrible, arrière-petite fils d’un membre du KKK [Ku Klux Klan]».
