Robert T. Mills named “Superintendent of the Year”
This award, sponsored by Xerox Canada, is awarded to the CASA member who has exhibited exemplary leadership ability and who has enhanced the profession of school administration throughout his career.
Consideration for this award is given to those administrators nominated by their provincial associations who are seen to have brought honour to themselves, to their colleagues and to their profession; to have given exemplary service to their provincial or national professional association; to have made significant contributions to the field of education through their service, writings or other activities; and who therefore serve as a role model and teacher to others.
A long career of service
Mr. Mills’ long career of service to public education at all levels from the classroom to his current leadership position has spanned 40 years with the former Protestant School Board of Greater Montreal and the Lester B. Pearson School Board.
He has been and remains active in provincial and national education associations, having served terms as President of both CASA and the Association of Anglophone School Administrators of Quebec (AAESQ), a Director of the American Association of School Administrators (AASA) and President of the Association of Directors General of English School Boards of Quebec (ADGESBQ).
All who have worked with Bob are aware of the deep commitment he brings to public education and to his varied and rich contributions.
“At a time when school boards are mandated to minimize overhead, cut administration and reduce expenses, it is essential for all boards to have strong administrators. Bob Mills is setting the stage at Lester B. Pearson and across the province. Under his leadership, Lester B. Pearson had the foresight to prepare for these tight times so that our board can continue to offer innovative and effective programs in our classrooms”, says Suanne Stein Day, Chairman of the Board.
The Canadian Association of School Administrators is the voice for senior educational leaders across Canada to influence the direction of national issues that impact on education. The organization is a federation of provincial and territorial affiliates whose members are professional education leaders.
