Conference presented by NDG en Histoire(s) about the fight for Benny Farm, an “ultra modern” housing project solution considered following the Second World War.
The Fight for Benny Farm – the birth, near death, and renaissance of a pioneering housing project. The housing shortage in Montreal was severe after the Second World War. In response, citizen pressure forced the Canadian government to develop Benny Farm, an “ultra modern” housing project solution! The close-knit community of war veterans and their families that emerged grew so much during the Baby Boom that people called it “Bunny Farm.” When changes were needed in the 1990s, community pressure resulted in the redevelopment of Benny Farm as a new kind of housing solution.
