Lakeside Academy wins LBPSB's French Reading Contest

Several members of our Grade Seven Club de lecture represented our school this month at the Qui lira, vaincra! French reading contest.

This was a contest organized by the Lester B Pearson School Board (LBPSB) as part of their promotion of French in their High Schools.

Starting in February, the students read over 30 young adult French books. There were novels, short stories and bandes dessinées, written by Canadian, French and Belgian authors.

The students enjoyed reading the books, and worked hard to prepare for the competition. They wrote out book summaries, character descriptions and practice quiz questions; they held regular practices in their French classroom and at the library, to quiz one another on the books and keep the details fresh in their minds.

A wonderful sense of camaraderie and team spirit developed as the students discussed the books and worked together to prepare for the competition.

The final was between Beaconsfield High School and Lakeside Academy, with Lakeside (Lachine) winning by 1 point.

Their teacher, Mme Howse, and our school librarian, Ms. Woolley, enjoyed coaching the students and are very proud of their hard work, dedication and well-earned success.

Bravo, les élèves!
