Happy Centennial, Mont-Royal !

Joanny-Furtin Michel - TC Media
Orchestrated by Heather Copeland and joined by many faithfull volunteers, the launch of the Centennial of the Town on Sunday was a great success with no less than 600 visitors between 4 and 8 p.m. at the town hall.

«We have spent 3 months preparing for this event, because we had to start the 100th anniversary with a grand opening», explains Heather Copeland, the driving force of this opening event. «It was important at this time of year to motivate the residents in joining us at this opening celebration.»

Townies were invited to discover the many events of this anniversary year, according to Alain Cote, communication’s director for the Town. The evening was reminiscent of the 1910-1920 years with silent movies and a pianist on hand to provide action sound to the movies. One could view archive documents, photos and historic memories that many local volunteer groups had prepared for this event. Whether a ball, a conference, a contest, a competition, a sport or history, some 20 kiosques were present to display their activities.

«Each month this year will have a centennial activity to please all residents, says mayor Philippe Roy enthusiastically, while congratulating the organizator of this evening, Heather Copeland, the coordinator of the centennial activities Suzanne Caron and some 100 volunteers who have and will donate hours of their time and energy to make this year’s activities a great success.
