Local Olympians, athletes honoured
Several local athletes—including 2016 Olympians Dorothy Yeats and Jacqueline Simoneau—attended the second annual Soirée Reconnaissance de l’Alliance et de la Fondation Sport-Études on November 15.
Yeats, a wrestler, narrowly missed the podium in her weight class was honoured, as was Simoneau, a student at Vanier College who finished seventh in the synchronized swimming women’s duet competition. Figure skater and Vanier alumnus Andrew Meng also received two scholarships totalling $3,000 at the event—some of the $169,000 scholarships awarded by the foundation in 2016.
The Sport-Études organization provides academic support to high-performance Quebec student-athletes like Simoneau, who can contact a dedicated academic counsellor and modify their course schedule or program requirements to fit their training schedule. The foundation organized 116 scholarships in 2016.
