Jean-Marc Fournier, leader of the opposition

Jean-Marc Fournier, Saint-Laurent’s member of the National assembly was chosen to act as the head of the Liberal party, after Jean Charest was defeated in the riding of Sherbrooke. As the chief of the Liberal party, he is now the opposition of leader of the opposition at the National assembly. Mr. Fournier gave an interview to Nouvelles SaintLaurent News and explained what are his plans for the National Assembly and his constituency.

Recommended by Jean Charest, he was unanimously appointed by the party caucus. Quickly Selected by his political family, Jean-Marc Fournier will not run for the Liberal party’s leadership. « I don’t feel like it » he says openly. « Let me be frank, at this time in my career and in my personal life, others can run. »

An open opposition

He wants work with the government of Pauline Marois. « It will be a constructive opposition; we accept the election’s results.

We will cooperate to help the economy, and job creation.  We will be there to support measures that support economic growth », says Fournier.

However, the leader of the opposition will oppose to any government measure that promotes Quebec sovereignty. « It is clear that we are against separation, against measures that would get us there, been a referendum or the proliferation of motions to generate fake conflicts. We think, it is counterproductive to the economy. « 

Support Laurentiens

Jean-Marc Fournier plans to support the economy of Saint-Laurent. His has the recognition of diplomas for immigrant at heart. « There are companies looking for employees and potential employees seeking recognition of their professional knowledge in order to get a job. In June we announced two very important measures. One is the Pôle de coordination pour l’accès à la formation , that offers specialised training that meet the population’s needs. It works on a case by case basis. This tool will be useful to a second one, a  commissaire aux plaintes en matière de reconnaissance des compétences professionnelles. « 

« It is a support commissioner, it’s not all about complains. It is a place where you can go and say « Here is my professional back-ground. What do-I do to get where I want to be? » The commissioner is there to support immigrants ».Mr. Fournier also wishes to defend the North plan, in which about 15 Saint-Laurent’s businesses are invested.
