Investigators look over wreckage of a small plane that crashed along Interstate 15 Wednesday, July 26, 2017, near Riverdale, Utah. Authorities say four people died when a small plane crashed on a northern Utah interstate median, tangling traffic and leaving blackened wreckage on the highway. Utah Department of Public Safety officials confirmed the deaths in the Wednesday-afternoon crash north of Salt Lake City, but did not immediately release further information on the deceased or the cause of the crash. Un petit avion s’est écrasé sur une autoroute de l’Utah, mercredi, tuant deux couples de vacanciers. L’appareil a tout juste évité de frapper des voitures dans sa chute sur les voies de circulation.
L’avion a plongé peu après avoir décollé d’un aéroport municipal situé au nord de Salt Lake City, a indiqué une porte-parole de l’administration fédérale de l’aviation, Allen Kenitzer. Aucun blessé au sol n’a été rapporté après l’écrasement.
Le pilote Layne Clarke, âgé 48 ans, prenait place à bord avec sa femme – Diana Clarke, 46 ans – et deux de ses amis – Perry et Sarah Huffaker, âgés de 45 et 42 ans – avec qui il partait en vacances, a dit un ami de la famille et collègue, Jeff Henderson. Ce dernier a précisé que M. Clarke avait obtenu son permis de piloter il y a cinq ans.
Les autorités enquêtent présentement sur les causes de l’accident.
Il semblerait que l’avion – un modèle Beech A36 Bonanza – était hors de contrôle et que le pilote a tenté d’atterrir sur l’autoroute I-15, selon le témoignage d’un camionneur qui était sur place au moment de l’accident, Obdulio Ruiz, rapporté par le journal Standard-Examiner.
