Housing a worry for the district?
Bordeaux-Cartierville is changing with condos being built in large number. Between 2010 and 2012, 620 units have been built in the borough. During the same period, no social renting house was permitted. Nathalie Fortin, head of the CLIC, noticed a boom of social homebuilding between 2008 and 2010, and none since then. The renting housing represents hardly 58% of the 21 005 private houses counted in the district. The average rate in Montreal is 62%. Edith Cyr, head of Bâtir son quartier, indicates that Bordeaux-Cartierville is in need of more social housing.
Harout Chitilian, district representative says the council makes sure that all the condos projects have at least 15% of accommodation with moderated rent. To manage social housing, the whole district should be taken into consideration.
