Great Canadian Shoreline Cleanup in Dorval

On Sunday September 23rd, over 80 enthusiastic Dorval Scouters and their families volunteer their time to participate in The Great Canadian Shoreline Cleanup.

This cleanup covered all the public shoreline in Dorval where over 214 kg of garbage was collected including 2 engine heads, 3 tires, and 2 iron railings. Cigarette butts and food packaging were the most common items picked up.

The event was visited by Mayor Edgar Rouleau and the Councillors of Dorval, and supported by the town of Dorval who donated equipment and materials towards the cleanup.

Dorval Scouters wanted to help the wildlife they share the river with, while bringing attention to how we all need to respect our environment by not littering or throwing items into our waterways and sewer systems.

Originating in Vancouver, the Great Canadian Shoreline Cleanup has been an annual event held across Canada since 1994. Volunteers from schools, scouting and guiding, companies, and individuals have expanded this program. In 2011, over 56,000 participants collected 143,000 kg of litter and aquatic debris from Vancouver Island to Newfoundland.
