Microchip Clinic in Saint-Laurent

Once again this year, the Borough of Saint-Laurent is organizing a microchip clinic for registered dogs and cats. The clinic will take place on Sunday, September 28, at the Centre des loisirs, 1375 rue Grenet.

Pet owners may sign up online now at ville.montreal.qc.ca/animaux (and click on « English » at the top of the page) to have a microchip implanted in their pet by qualified personnel on site. The microchip fee ($25/pet) must be paid at the clinic in cash, by credit card, debit card or cheque.

Only dogs and cats with a license and wearing an ID tag will be microchipped. Residents whose pet has not yet been registered have two options: either register their pet by mail or in person at the Citizens’ Office, 777 boulevard Marcel-Laurin. More information on the required documents and rates may be obtained at ville.montreal.qc.ca/saint-laurent/animalcontrol or by phoning 311.

A Saint-Laurent idea inspiring other boroughs

Organized jointly by the Borough of Saint-Laurent and Ville de Montréal’s Service de la concertation des arrondissements, in cooperation with veterinary clinics and the Association des techniciens en santé animale du Québec (ATSAQ), this clinic is a follow-up to last year’s success, when Saint-Laurent organized the first clinic of its kind in Montreal. This year, thanks to this first successful effort, the clinic will be held again, this time in four Montréal boroughs: Ahuntsic-Cartierville, LaSalle, Montréal-Nord and Villeray—Saint-Michel—Parc-Extension.

« We are proud to see other boroughs inspired by this idea developed in Saint-Laurent at the first microchip clinic in Montréal. We are concerned about the well-being of our residents’ pets and it is by making state-of-the-art solutions accessible—solutions like microchipping, for example—that municipal administrations can improve their control over animals, » explained Saint-Laurent Mayor Alan DeSousa.

Microchipping: technology solution for our pets

As small as a grain of rice, a microchip is an electronic device, in the form of a capsule, that is implanted under the skin of a dog or cat. This capsule contains a unique identification number linked to a database that makes it possible to find important information about the animal, including the contact information of its owner.
